Let's be honest. Most hoverboards are made for smooth tiles and flat driveways, and the second you roll them onto grass or gravel, they just give up. That's exactly the problem we wanted to solve when we started getting questions about the NS8 Off Road Hoverboard, so we decided to actually put it through its paces instead of just repeating the spec sheet at you.
Here's what stood out, what surprised us, and who we think this thing is actually built for.
First Impressions
Out of the box, the NS8 feels noticeably chunkier than a standard hoverboard, and that's a good thing. The tyres are the first thing you notice. Instead of the thin, hard plastic wheels you get on entry level boards, this one comes with proper all terrain rubber tyres built for grip. Depending on the model, you're looking at around 8.5 to 10 inch tyres, which gives you extra ground clearance to roll over sticks, small rocks, and cracked pavement without getting stuck or thrown off balance.
It also comes in a few finishes that actually match the "off road" branding instead of feeling like an afterthought. We're talking Camouflage Grey, Camouflage Blue, Blue Galaxy, and a sleek all Black option if you want something a bit more understated for city riding.
How It Actually Handles Off Road
This is the part we cared about most, because plenty of products claim to be "off road" and then fold the moment they hit real terrain.
The NS8 uses dual high torque motors paired with a 500W setup, and honestly, you can feel the difference the moment you take it off the footpath. On packed dirt trails and grass, it stayed stable without that jittery wobble you sometimes get on cheaper boards. Loose gravel was where it really impressed us. Instead of sliding around, the tyres seemed to bite into the surface and keep traction, which made the ride feel a lot more predictable.
The gyroscopic stability tech also earns its keep here. On uneven ground, most hoverboards start to feel twitchy under your feet, but this one corrected itself quickly enough that we didn't feel like we were constantly fighting to stay upright.
Battery wise, you're looking at around 15km of range on a full charge, which is plenty for backyard laps, park rides, or getting around a property without needing to stop and recharge every twenty minutes.
The Little Extras We Didn't Expect to Like
A few features felt like genuine bonuses rather than marketing filler.
The built in Bluetooth speaker is a nice touch, especially if this is going to a teenager who wants music while they ride. LED lights around the base add a bit of visibility and honestly just make it look more fun, particularly once the sun starts going down.
It's also worth mentioning this model is a hit with a younger crowd. We saw plenty of feedback from parents buying it for kids roughly 8 to 15 years old, and more than one comment along the lines of "my son hasn't stopped riding it since it arrived," which tells you something about how well it holds up to actual daily use rather than sitting in the garage after week one.
Who This Is Actually For
If you live somewhere with a backyard, a park nearby, or any kind of unpaved path, this is where the NS8 genuinely makes sense. It's not really designed for someone who only rides on smooth indoor floors, because you'd be paying for off road capability you're never going to use.
But if you've got kids who want to ride on grass, gravel driveways, or bumpy footpaths, or you're an adult who wants something sturdier than the average hoverboard, this is one of the more capable options we've tested.
Our Verdict
We went in expecting another hoverboard with an "off road" label slapped on for marketing, and came away actually impressed by how it performed once it left the pavement. The bigger tyres, dual motor setup, and stability tech aren't just spec sheet numbers. They make a real difference the moment the ground gets uneven.
As always, we'd recommend proper safety gear, a helmet, knee pads, and elbow pads, especially for younger riders who are still getting used to the extra power.
